Tsumugi’s Story 3

This komon is special to me because it is the first kimono that I bought with my own money. I saw it in the used kimono shop and from far away it looked like kompeto (colourful candies). It is the blue, pink and yellow in it. Actually when I got close I saw that it…

Tsumugi’s Story 2

I have been wearing this yukata since I was 14. I always wore it at our local festival. I chose it because it was pink with big roses and had lace on it. When I wore it at the festival, I always thought I looked number 1. I wore it going out with friends and…

Tsumugi’s Story 1

This kimono is very special to me. It is my best kimono for two reasons. It was given to me by a woman who took lessons from my mother. She is now in her 70s or 80s. She bought it for her daughter’s coming of age, but she has no use for it anymore. She…

Tsumugi’s Problems

If you have to carry a kimono set out when you go somewhere, it is really heavy. It is much heavier than carrying a dress. If you get a lot of kimono, they also take up storage space. But still I like wearing it anyway. I feel that it stretches my spine. 着物セットが重いです。ドレスよりもずっと重くて、これを持って移動するのはとても大変です。着物が増えてくると収納場所もとります。でも好きですから着ています。着物を着ると背筋が伸びる感じがします。

Tsumugi’s Influences

I have two influences. One is my mother. I have grown up watching her work with kimono and teach people kimono. The other influence is my love of rococo clothing. I was always crazy about this kind of clothing and being able to mix it with kimono was wonderful. I think I have become interested…

Risa’s Story 3

I realized we are in the SNS period now from this kimono. From when I started to post my photograph in kimono, many people tried to give me kimono. I know an artist who makes fabric flowers from unpicked /cut up kimono. Many kimono are donated there, too. Some are too good to cut, so…

Risa’s Story 2

Risa’s Story 1

This kimono I’m wearing now is the first kimono given to me by my mother. When I decided to learn kimono dressing, my mother asked me if I had a kimono. I realized that I did not have one. I was given this obiage and obijime at the same time. I like this color and…

Risa’s Problems

I don’t think I have any trouble in my kimono life. It takes time to put it on and after I take it off, but it is natural. I would be happy if I could get dressed quicker, but I enjoy even it now. 困っていることは特にありません。着物は着るのも片づけるのも確かに時間がかかりますが、そういうものだと思っています。もう少し早く着られるようになれば良いなと思いますが、今はそれはそれで楽しんでいます。

Risa’s Influences

I love to see Empress Michiko in kimono. I am amazed at her in kimono from when she was in her youth until now. I think she is showing her charm in the best way even under pressure and with a heavy responsibility as a representative of our country. I leant a lot from an…
