Mika’s Influences

Until when I was three years old my family ran a sushi restaurant. In the restaurant, we played the music of the koto (Japanese table harp), and my grandmother was always working there with her kappougi,(kimono apron) on. I was always with my grandmother and we often watched the period drama TV programs together. I might have been influenced by that environment. After I started to wear kimono by myself, I came to like maiko and geisha. I always check the instagram page of geisha and refer their style. I visit Kyoto every year to watch the maiko and geisha’s dance recital and buy kimono accessories at the shops which are frequented by maiko and geisha. I don’t flutter when I see a handsome guy, but my heart leaps up when I see geisha.

私が3歳の頃まで、家族は寿司屋を営んでいました。店内には琴の音が流れていて、祖母は割烹着を着て働いていました。私はおばあちゃん子で、祖母と一緒によく時代劇を観ていました。小さい頃に無意識のうちに和が好きなベースができていたかもしれません。

その後成長して自分で着物を着るようになると舞妓さんや芸者さんが大好きになりました。芸者さん達のインスタグラムをチェックして、コーディネートや小物使いを参考にしています。京都まで舞妓さん、芸者さんの踊りの会に行き、帰りに彼女達の行きつけの店で帯揚げなどの小物を買います。

イケメンには胸がときめかないのですが、芸者さん達をみると胸がキュンとします。
