My grandmother and my mother like kimono. My grandmother often wore it and also she would go to the local kimono store that she trusted in Hyogo prefecture, where she comes from, and have kimono made for my mother. I can wear those kimono because my mother and I are the same size. I have spent three years abroad, when I was 15, and again when I was 18 and 19. I think if I had not spent that time abroad, I would not be wearing kimono now. Being outside Japan was important to recognize my own culture.

祖母と母は着物が好きで、祖母は着物を着ていることが多かったです。祖母の出身地である兵庫県に懇意にしていた呉服店があり、私の母の着物もそこで誂えていました。私は母の体型と似ているため、母の着物を着ることができます。高校時代と大学時代、行ったり来たりしながら合わせて３年間アメリカに住んでいました。それが着物を趣味にしていることに影響しているかもしれません。海外に住まなかったら、今着物を着ていなかったと思います。海外から日本を見ることは自国の文化を再認識するためには重要だと思います。
