Harumi – STORIES 着物物語

This first kimono that I want to introduce is a kimono with a woven design of red camellias on a black ground. It was a surprise present from my mother and grandmother, but it is not at all what I wanted. They had no idea that a child could wear a kimono with a pattern dyed on it as casual wear. Where I came from kimono had designs woven into them. I was grateful to them, so I wore the kimono and matching haori patiently until I was twenty years old. Then I realized that I liked feminine and gorgeously designed kimono, and that was what I really wanted to wear.

１枚目は黒字に赤い椿の柄が織り出された紬のアンサンブルです。これは中学性の頃、祖母と母が私を喜ばせようとしてサプライズで作ってくれた着物でした。確かに黒地に赤い椿の着物が欲しいと言ったのですが、それは母が購読していた着物雑誌に載っていた、黒地に赤い椿がくっきりと染め抜かれたあでやかで華やかな染めの小紋を見てそんな着物が欲しくて言ったので、二人には「これじゃないよ」と言ってしまいました。でも東北地方に暮らす祖母と母の頭には、普段着といえば紬であり、まして子供の普段着に柔らか物の小紋を作るという発想がなかったのでした。中学生の子供に村山大島のアンサンブルを作ってくれたということだけでも、今思うととてもありがたいことです。でも当時はがっかりしながら、２０歳頃まで我慢して着ていました。このことをきっかけに、私は柔らかい着物が好きなんだと自覚し、自分が本当に好きな着物、着たい着物を意識して探すようになりました。
