The first one is this check kimono that I am wearing. This was sewn by my mother when I was 20’s. Because of my mother’s work, she got many tan-mono as seasonal gifts and this check tan-mono was one of them. When I saw this, I felt kimono fabric was cute for the first time. After it had been sewn by my mother, seeing the transformation from the cute fabric into a lovely kimono made me really excited.

「１枚目の着物は、今着ているウールの格子の着物です。これは２０代はじめの頃、母が仕立ててくれました。母がお仕立ての仕事をしていたおかげで、お中元やお歳暮に反物をいただくことが多く、この格子の着物もその一つでした。この格子の着物をまだ反物の時に見たとき、初めて『かわいい』と思い、仕立てあがるのが楽しみでした。そして仕立てあがったのを見て驚きました。ただのかわいいチェックの布が、素敵な格子の着物に変身したのを見て、初めて着物ってすごいな、おもしろいな、と思いました。」
